It’s finally September. And I can almost feel the last warmth of summer, the cozy weather of fall, the winter peeking through the window. With the festive season kicking in and home-coming for many people, a comfort movie or re-watching a masterpiece is all I want.
If you are someone like me who loves watching content on OTT, here are a few movie and TV series recommendations that you can watch on Netflix in September.
Maareesan (Drama, U/A 13+)
Have you ever watched a film that makes you feel like -”what’s going on?”. This is the exact feeling you will have as you start Maareesan. But as you keep watching, it builds up with such crescendo that you won’t be able to blink. No kidding.
Each scene is gripping and each detail screams – new plot twist. This Fahad Fazil & Vadivelu starrer gripping thriller will linger in your mind and will itch the last brain cell you thought was safe.
Amaran (U/A 16+,Action)
Sai Pallavi & Sivakarthikeyan starred Amaran will take you to the nostalgic lanes of ‘old-school love’, with exposure to serious topics. If you love Rahul Bose’s acting you will even like it more.

Based on a real life story of Major Mukund, an Indian Army officer who died in a counter-terrorism mission, this film is a must-watch.
Meiyazhagan (U/A 7+, Drama)
Meiyazhagan is one soulful film which will make you feel overwhelmingly good. Set in a quiet village, it is the warmth of friendships that outlive time, the laughter that hides tears, and the silences that speak louder than words.

Every scene screams that it’s not the materialism that makes you happy, it’s the connections at the end of the day. This movie will remind you that the real strength is the tenderness that you carry inside.
Serious Men (U/A 16+, Drama)
This comedy-drama, directed by Mr. Sudheer Mishra, is a must-watch for anyone looking for something fresh to nourish the soul. This movie portrays a father’s relentless pursuit to make his little boy into something.
Naturally, it’s very inspirational, satirical and above all, gives a strong social message to everyone. Nawazuddin along with Shweta Basu Prasad performed incredibly well in their roles.
Mindhunter (A, Thriller)
Mindhunter is one of those rare series that doesn’t just entertain, it consumes you. This is a more consuming and psychological deep dive into the human mind, and less about who kills whom!

Why Mindhunter remains on top is that it never rushes from one scene to another, but it quietly builds, consumes, and binds you to watch every crime thriller like this.
In short, if you are an ardent crime drama lover, just go for this one.
The Pale Blue Eye (U/A 16+, Drama)
If you haven’t seen The Pale Blue Eye, this is your sign to watch it. If you like gothic historical settings, mysterious murders and spectacular acting by the lead cast – then this is it. Christian Bale never disappoints, trust me.
It is criminally underrated and under-appreciated. Watch it if you are into these types of vibes.
All Quiet on the Western Front (A, Drama)
Based on German novelist Erich Maria Ramarque, this novel shows a heart-breaking story of a young Soldier whose very idealistic dreams get shattered amidst the World War (I).
If you like delving into the human side of war movies, then this film brilliantly captures the essence of war and why War is never good.
That’s a Wrap!
