Tecno Pova Slim 5G Long-Term Review: Style Over Raw Power

When I first heard about Tecno Pova Slim 5G, I was genuinely intrigued. A device that’s just 5.95mm thick? That’s impressively slim and certainly stands out in today’s market. And here comes the interesting part. This Tecno budget phone features a processor typically found in devices priced around INR 13,000, while this Tecno smartphone costs about INR 20,000. So what gives?

Well, let’s find out in this long-term review of the Tecno Pova Slim 5G.

Design

Let’s start with the design. This phone is impressively slim. In fact, it’s one of the sleekest I have seen in its category.

I haven’t had the chance to try out the iPhone Air yet, but I imagine the experience would be quite similar in terms of thinness and overall feel. What really stands out here is the camera module. It sits neatly on the back, without that bulky protrusion we often see on modern smartphones. In short, the design feels cohesive and well-balanced from every angle.

Interestingly, the camera module barely protrudes, and this gives the phone a clean and cohesive look. Interestingly, its circular design almost resembles the playful “Minions” aesthetic and, if you ask me, it adds a unique character without feeling overdone.

Display

Now, let’s move on to the display. This device features a 144Hz Super AMOLED 1.5K screen, which is quite impressive for its price segment. Though if you ask me, Tecno could have gone with a slightly lower refresh rate, say 120Hz, to make the device more affordable. After all, phones in this category don’t always need ultra-high refresh rates. A balance between performance and cost would have made more sense here.

Where the phone truly shines is the display. The visual quality is excellent, whether you are streaming Netflix or watching YouTube videos. The colors are vibrant, and the contrast feels well-balanced. At the same time, the brightness levels are impressive and hold up well in sunlight conditions.

One thing worth noting is that HDR support isn’t available at the moment, neither on Netflix nor on YouTube. We are hoping that Tecno addresses this in a future software update.

Battery and Charging

The Pova Slim houses a 5160mAh battery, which gives it a solid foundation for all-day use. At the same time, it supports 45W fast charging.

Our daily usage included plenty of time scrolling through Instagram, watching videos on YouTube, answering calls, and checking the news, among others. And during this time, the battery comfortably lasts around 12 hours before needing a recharge at the end of the evening.

Charging performance is impressive as well. With the included 45W charger, this slim phone reaches 50% in just about 30 minutes and takes roughly an hour for a full charge. We noted that during charging, the device does get slightly warm, but nothing concerning or uncomfortable.

Overall, the battery and charging experience feel well-balanced for its category.

Performance

Now, let’s talk about performance. This phone runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 6400 chipset, the same processor that Tecno typically uses in some of its more affordable models.

At first, I was curious about how it would perform in such a slim device, especially when it comes to heat management during demanding tasks like photography or video recording. Surprisingly, it handled those situations quite well. The phone stays relatively cool even with extended use, which is impressive given its ultra-thin build. Everyday performance is smooth, and it easily handles casual gaming and multitasking without lag.

That said, this slim Tecno phone is not built for serious gaming. Instead, it’s more suited for casual gamers who enjoy the occasional match or two. Even at 120Hz, the experience remains smooth and responsive enough for everyday use.

However, if you’re into heavy gaming or looking for flagship-level performance, this might not be the best choice. It’s clearly designed more for style and everyday usability than for long gaming sessions.

Let’s be honest. This phone isn’t meant for everyone. It’s designed for users who prioritize style, portability, and that ultra-slim form factor. You can think of it as the “iPhone Air” experience on a much more accessible budget. It’s the kind of phone that slips effortlessly into a purse or pocket while still turning heads with its sleek design.

That said, there is a slight catch. The phone comes with UFS 2.2 storage and doesn’t support 4K video recording. Still, for most users, that won’t be a dealbreaker.

Camera Performance

When it comes to the camera, the HDR performance is solid, and the colors are vibrant and social media–ready. If you’re someone who likes taking quick photos for Instagram or sharing casual snaps online, this camera delivers results that look great right out of the box. That said, you might find the results a bit on the artificial side. There’s noticeable post-processing and some over-sharpening, which becomes evident when you zoom in on the details.

When it comes to low-light photography and videography, the absence of both EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) and OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) is definitely felt. You’ll need a steady hand or some good lighting to get the best results. So overall, while the camera performs well for casual use, it’s not meant for professional or heavy content creation.

The bottom line is, if you usually shoot in good lighting and need a phone that delivers solid photos and selfie videos for Instagram or other social platforms, this device will get the job done. It performs reliably and won’t let you down when it comes to everyday content creation.

Wrapping up

Designing an ultra-thin device isn’t easy. There are many factors to take into account, and thermal management is one of them. Generally, powerful processors and high-intensity tasks tend to generate more heat, and this becomes difficult to handle in such a compact frame. Considering that, Tecno’s decision to balance performance with design seems more reasonable.

The Tecno Pova Slim is built for those who value a sleek, lifestyle-oriented design. So, if you’re expecting flagship-level performance or high-intensive gaming, this might not be the right fit. But if you appreciate premium aesthetics and a device that feels as good as it looks, this phone deserves your attention.

And if you are someone who wants pure value or performance, you’ll find more powerful options within Tecno’s own lineup at similar or even lower price points.

Last but not least, you also get everything you need right out of the box, including a charger, cable, slim protective case, and a 3D screen protector included. These are thoughtful additions in a time when many brands have stopped offering these essentials.
