Over the years, Xiaomi has built a reputation for offering strong hardware at competitive prices, and the Xiaomi 17T follows the same formula. On paper, it offers almost everything buyers expect from a premium smartphone.
Priced around INR 60,000, it comes with an AMOLED display, a large battery, a telephoto camera, flagship-grade memory and storage, and more.
However, specifications are only one part of the story. After personally using the phone for nearly 20 days, here’s a Xiaomi 17T long-term review.
Build and Design
The Xiaomi 17T weighs around 200 grams and comes with a fibreglass back. It’s not the most premium material, but it’s durable and keeps the phone lightweight. The chamfered frame makes one-handed use comfortable, and the fingerprint sensor placement is also a nice add-on.
This Xiaomi phone also comes with an IP68 rating, meaning dust and water-resistant. Xiaomi has kept the signature infrared sensor too, which is placed neatly inside the camera module.
That said, it’s not without its limitations. The camera module on the back doesn’t sit flush with the body. And this, as such, causes a slight wobble when the phone is lying flat. Though I think it would not be an issue with a cover on.
Display
This is the one thing I genuinely loved about the Xiaomi 17T. Xiaomi has equipped the 17T with a 6.59-inch 1.5K AMOLED panel. It uses an LTPS panel instead of LTPO and supports 30Hz, 60Hz, and 120Hz refresh rates.
During testing, the phone switched between 60Hz and 120Hz as expected. The 30Hz mode appears to be handled automatically in the background to help improve battery efficiency.
I personally enjoyed watching HDR10+ content on Netflix and Amazon Prime. Colours seemed very natural, and I had no issues with outdoor visibility, even in bright sunlight.
Performance
The Xiaomi 17T is powered by MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra, paired with 12GB RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. During my time with it, I could easily sail through daily tasks and heavy gaming without any slowdowns.
That said, do note that the phone comes with the same 12GB RAM, irrespective of whatever storage variants you choose — 256GB or 512GB.
During my time with the phone, I found its gaming performance to be quite impressive. Titles like BGMI, Call of Duty, and King Shot ran smoothly without major throttling issues. What stood out to me was Xiaomi’s thermal management.
Even during extended gaming sessions, the heat remained under control, and the phone never became uncomfortable for me to hold. I feel the cooling system here did a great job maintaining performance while keeping the temperature in check.

Of course, during 4K video recording, I noticed slight warmth, especially in hot weather, but that is expected from most smartphones.
Camera Performance
The triple camera setup of the Xiaomi 17T comes with a 50MP primary, a 50MP 5x telephoto, and a 12MP ultra-wide, along with a 32MP front camera. Daylight shots from the primary are punchy and sharp with natural processing.
The real highlight, though, is the telephoto camera. The 10x optical zoom delivers detailed images, and even higher zoom levels remain usable.
The 10x optical zoom gave nice sharpness and detail, something not always guaranteed at this price. Low-light performance from both the primary and telephoto was also good, helped by OIS on both lenses.
The weak part here might be the ultra-wide camera. At 12MP, it handles good lighting conditions well, but you might see a drop in quality as the light decreases.
The selfie camera is decent overall, though autofocus and slightly better skin-tone processing would have improved the experience.
Battery and Software
The Xiaomi 17T packs a 6500mAh battery. And for me, it easily lasted more than a day with moderate use. So for light users, I could see the battery life easily stretching to two days.
In my opinion, the only disappointment is the charging speed. The phone comes with a 67W charger, which is fine, but Xiaomi already offers 120W on some of their other phones.
The lack of wireless charging also feels like a missing point here, though I think it might be due to the fibreglass back and the vapour chamber setup inside.
The phone also runs on Xiaomi’s Hyper OS, with 5 plus 6 years of software support. And believe me when I say this, it is a big advantage for long-term buyers.
Should You Buy Xiaomi 17T?
So should you buy Xiaomi 17T, I would definitely say yes. At around INR 55,000 with offers and discounts, I think it is genuinely worth buying.
The excellent display, long battery life, smooth performance, capable cameras, and effective thermal management make the phone a reliable all-in-one package. The fibreglass build, slower 67W charging, and lack of wireless charging may disappoint some users, but in my opinion, these are minor compromises considering everything else the phone gets right.
If your priorities are display quality, battery life, performance, and useful zoom capabilities, this phone is a must-try.
