Best Upcoming EV Cars in India

Electric cars are becoming a big deal in India nowadays. Almost every carmaker is now working on a new EV. Some are launching soon. Some are still a year or two away.

So, if you are planning to buy an EV, here are 5 upcoming cars that are worth waiting for.

Tata Sierra EV

Tata is back with the Sierra name, and this time it’s fully electric. It is expected to launch by late 2026. There will be two battery options, 55 kWh and 65 kWh.

Range could be close to 540 km, which is quite good. The price is expected to be somewhere between INR 30 and 35 lakh. That puts it right between the Punch EV and the Safari EV.

It also has a retro-looking design with a triple-screen dashboard inside. Feels a bit different from the usual SUV look.

Mahindra BE 07

Mahindra has confirmed this one is coming, based on the BE.07 concept car. It’s expected to launch sometime in 2027, soif you waiting for this one, you need to wait a bit longer.

Some reports say the range could touch 600 km, but nothing is official yet. This will be Mahindra’s next big EV after the BE 6, so expectations are already high.

Tata Avinya

This one is different. It’s the first car from Tata’s new standalone EV brand, sitting above the Harrier EV.

The expected launch is around December 2026 or January 2027. The price could start around INR 35 lakh, so it’s more of a premium option. The battery is expected to start at 75 kWh, with range going above 500 km.

Additionally, it also gets butterfly doors and a design that looks like nothing else on Indian roads right now.

VinFast VF3

VinFast is a Vietnamese company entering the Indian market with the VF3. This could be one of the cheapest EVs in India, priced around INR 10 lakh.

That’s a big deal because most EVs right now are out of reach for average buyers. If priced right, this could bring a lot of new people into the EV space.

BYD Atto 2

BYD is bringing in the Atto 2 as a cheaper option below its Atto 3. It uses BYD’s own Blade battery, with two options: 45.1 kWh and 51.1 kWh.

Range is expected to be somewhere between 312 km and 410 km, depending on which variant you pick.

It also comes loaded with features like a panoramic sunroof, heated seats, and a touchscreen that can rotate. Feels quite premium for its segment.

Which One Should You Wait For?

These 5 cars cover almost every budget. VinFast VF3 is for people who want something affordable. Tata Avinya is for people who want something premium and futuristic.

Sierra EV and BE 07 sit somewhere in between and are more for families or SUV lovers. BYD Atto 2 is a good pick if you want a loaded car without paying too much extra.

One thing to keep in mind, though, a lot of these prices and launch dates are still not final. Companies often change things closer to launch. So if you’re planning to buy one of these cars, it is better to wait for the official announcement before you make up your mind.
